Xiaomi has shown its cards for 2021 very soon. The company usually presents its first flagship of the season in February, but the new Xiaomi Mi 11 has come a couple of months ahead and becomes the first terminal with Snapdragon 888 to be shown to the Big audience.
Now it is time to face it against the main mobile phones of the competition, which although they do not yet have their bets for the new year, they do have models presented and launched very recently , as is the case of Huawei, Apple or Samsung. These are the mobiles that we have selected.

The best mobiles of the year (2020): their analysis and videos are here
Design: a more polished bet than ever
Xiaomi Rear
The design of the front of the Mi 11 is again tremendously similar to that of its predecessors, as it has been for a while, although it is polished with a front more occupied by screen, exceeding 91%. Thus, to recognize it, beyond its curved screen, which is basically something almost general in this range, we will have to look at the back , where with mobiles like the Xiaomi Mi 10T , Xiaomi is differentiating itself from the competition.
In that sense, the Mi 11 leaves us a camera module angled to the upper right side of the back . In it, the main camera plays a leading role, which has a silver ring that stands out more than the rest of the cameras.
The curved screen seems to reign again in the front of the high-end of 2021, as in the Xiaomi Mi 11. The great absence? IP68 certification
On the front, the Xiaomi Mi 11 Pro has a single camera angled to the left in a panel with hardly any frames , as is normal, and that, yes, it again opts for the curves on the sides of the screen.
For the rest, the Xiaomi Mi 11 is a large terminal of 6.81 “and 8.06 mm thick, which weighs 196 grams that, without being light, will feel less heavy than many other rivals such as the iPhone 12 Pro Max, the Huawei Mate 40 or the Samsung Galaxy Note 20. In its body, we miss IP68 resistance certification , as it happened with previous models.
AMOLED screen at 120 HZ: now, Xiaomi is rubbing shoulders with the best
Design Mi 11
Until this year, Xiaomi had never mounted a panel that for technology, pixel density and refresh rate, could compete with, for example, Samsung in its higher-end models .
However, that has now changed because, finally, Xiaomi leaves Full HD + behind and moves to what they have called 2K, which leaves us with an OLED panel of 515 pixels per inch . They are very little behind the Samsung Galaxy S20 +, but they successfully outperform the proposals of Huawei, Sony, Apple, and practically tie with Oppo and OnePlus. Like Samsung, it also uses Gorilla Glass Victus , which offers the best protection against drops and is much improved against scratches.
Xiaomi
Where the Mi 11 stands out by far is in maximum brightness, where with 1,771 nits it far exceeds others such as the iPhone 12 Pro Max , which reaches 1,200 nits of maximum brightness in HDR. In addition, it has a touch frequency rate of 480 Hz and a panel refresh rate of 120 Hz , rivaling or even exceeding the best of the rest.
In addition to extremely high brightness and sharpness, Xiaomi’s promises with this screen include a record touch response and great calibration
The refresh rate is adaptive , with modes of 30, 60, 90 and 120Hz, which will vary according to the content that we view on the screen. The goal is to save as much battery life as possible.
From Xiaomi, in addition, they have boasted of panel calibration alluding to figures measured by DisplayMate , with which they say that they are ahead of the iPhone 12 Pro Max in terms of color fidelity in the available color ranges.

Power and performance: as always, at the top of what is available in the Android world
Snapdragon 888
Another year, as usual, Xiaomi has launched a terminal of the Mi series with the most recent processor presented by Qualcomm . That is, beyond the optimizations of each brand and terminal, Xiaomi once again has the best within what is available beyond proprietary proposals such as Exynos, Kirin or Apple’s A.
This year, the company bets on the Snapdragon 888 , which aims to be the most used of the year, and from which we expect a lot of power in every way, with the adoption of a high-performance X1 cores from ARM, and a GPU that it also grows 35% in rendering power, with an efficiency improved by 20% over the previous generation. In total, we are talking about 8 Kryo 680 cores , of which three are A78 at 2.84 GHz and another four are A55 at 1.8 GHz.
The Snapdragon 888 is a guarantee on which Xiaomi can build the best possible user experience
According to Qualcomm’s own tests, we know that in the benchmark unit, this Snapdragon 888 will not outperform the A14 in Geekbench 5 , both in single-core and multi-core performance. Regarding the Kirin 9000 , in CPU it seems that there will be practically a tie.
On the GPU, according to Qualcomm tests, it would also not exceed the peak performance of the A14 in the GFXBench Aztec Ruins (with the screen off), although the key may be in the sustained performance, where Qualcomm can win and Xiaomi can take advantage of it . We will see it when we analyze the terminals.
For the RAM and storage, as a base, Xiaomi has chosen to launch a base model with 8 GB + 128 GB , with the latest, that is, LPDDR5 and UFS 3.1.
Camera: perhaps Xiaomi lacks a telephoto lens to rival the rest
Camera Mi 11
The Xiaomi Mi 11 has a main camera whose 1 / 1.33 ” sensor reaches a resolution of 108 megapixels , seven-element lens and optical image stabilizer. It is, like the sensor of the Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro to which it happens, one of the largest on the market.
On camera, a telephoto lens is missing, like last year
The wide angle is 13 megapixels, allowing you to take pictures with a wider field of view. Finally, we find a 5 megapixel macro sensor, the one that perhaps most clashes in a mobile of this caliber , no matter how common this 2020 has been.
Against rivals of the price that is expected in Spain according to that of its predecessor, 799 euros, a telephoto lens of at least two increases is missed , although for example the iPhone 12 does not include it in that range either.
