Mobile phones began to popularize massively in the second half of the nineties. Until then they were too expensive and too big, but manufacturers such as Nokia, Ericsson or Motorola managed to fit in one pocket and the price to pay was not outrageous. Before, mobile phones were for executives and business people, little else. In that decade, the transition was completed until we managed to convince society that the phones were for everyone.
In that race, the prices were falling. A phone like the Nokia 8110 , from 1996, cost the equivalent of 1,599.28 euros in 2019 if we adjusted its original price for inflation. It seems a high price, but a few years before the prices were even higher, due to the low maturity of that technology and the target to which they were directed. Over the years, prices continued to fall first and remain stable … until a couple of years ago .
And the folding screen arrived
After a decade with that relative stability, in 2016 and 2017 we saw considerable upswings that have been accentuated in 2018 and how little we have been in 2019. Sublimation has come with the Samsung Galaxy Fold , which, if we discount the extinct Vertu and the like (with Embedded jewelry) and we started since 1996, it has become the most expensive phone in recent history with its $ 1,980 .
Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10 +, first impressions: the evolution that the Galaxy S family deserved
Its official price in euros has not yet been confirmed, but even making a mere conversion to euros -there would be taxes and this conversion is always upwards-, that is, being conservative … I would have the record with those 1,742 euros which, as we say, will predictably be more.

Mobile Prices For Inflation 001
As we can see, there are five phones that stand out above the rest in recent years: four of them are the luxury editions of normal manufacturers that have launched their terminals in collaboration with a car brand . There are the Porsche variants of Huawei or Lamborghini by Oppo . OnePlus also partnered with McLaren , but kept the price at more normal levels. Remember that the graphics phones are the basic versions of each model (in storage, RAM and variables of that style).
Even the most conservative price forecast for the Galaxy Fold already breaks the most expensive telephone record in recent history
However, none of the mobile phones with a car brand was as expensive as the Galaxy Fold is , which justifies its price in a totally new technology and not in an automotive logo – without detracting from the technology they hold. After all of them, there is only the RED Hydrogen One , which really goes more to a specific niche of users. From there, traditional phones, to call them in some way: the Note, the iPhone …
As it happened with the curve of the same Samsung, which debuted in the original Galaxy Note Edge and then was expanded to other phones in the house, it is presumable that the technology of folding screens lower costs in a short time, and these almost-two -mil-dollars are the anecdote of the beginning, and not the norm of the next generations of smartphones with these panels. Of course by then it is possible that someone has finished exceeding the Fold’s record with another technology. We will see.
