As a great technological fair that is MWC 2019 could not miss the presence of Lenovo, although we saw new teams at CES 2019 and very recently the presentation of the new Moto G7 . What has presented this manufacturer are new laptops, an all-in-one, a convertible and a hybrid between mobile and tablet among other devices.
A good assortment of new devices aimed at quite varied audiences , from teams for a staff of employees to others for casual gamers , and what we might call a return to the phablet , the term that was coined for those mobiles whose dimensions brought them closer to tablets like the Samsung Note or the Huawei Mate. Of course, they have not left out the 5G, the theme almost par excellence of this MWC as we have seen in several of the main protagonists.
The most generic line, which seeks to satisfy basic needs without giving up occasional sessions of video games. With chassis built entirely in aluminum , they are slim equipment available in pretty eye-catching colors such as copper (or pink for the S340).
For the IdeaPad S540 , what they have highlighted is that the autonomy arrives until 12 o’clock, combined with the manufacturer’s own rapid charge, which achieves a 2-hour autonomy after a 15-minute load. It integrates an Intel Core i7 of eighth generation, with option to NVIDIA or AMD graphics, with the NVIDIA GeForce MX250 or the AMD Ryzen 7 3700U.
There are models in 14 and 15 inches, being IPS panels with FullHD resolution and having a thickness of 15.9 and 16.9 millimeters respectively. In addition, they incorporate Dolby Audio speakers and the TrueBlock privacy system, with which it is not necessary for the user to worry about physically covering his webcam.
As for the IdeaPad S340 , it is a laptop that manages to be thinner and thinner than the previous equipment of the company, also in models of 14 and 15 inches. It integrates the Intel Core i7-8565U eighth generation processor, also with option of GPU between the NVIDIA GeForce MX250 and AMD Ryzen 7 3700U, and with a maximum autonomy of 10 hours according to the manufacturer.
But what seeks to do something more striking to this team is the simultaneous integration of Cortana and Alexa , the virtual assistants of Microsoft and Amazon respectively. In this way, it is a team that seeks to serve as an informative or multimedia center, being able to control the reproduction, consult the time and the other tasks that these assistants currently allow by means of voice commands.
In this case, having that side of tablet, has support for stylus and integrates the Active Pen, which is loaded once it is inside the device. It is available in models of 14 and 15 inches, also in various colors and with the option to integrate fingerprint reader .
The all-in-one equipment is usually quite striking when integrating the components of a usual desktop into what would be the back of the monitor, and this specifically does so by the design of its base. It maintains a modernist aesthetic, being available in black or white, and above all looking to be a smaller and minimalist alternative within this type of equipment, with edges of 9.5 millimeters (at its thinnest point).
But beyond the look and construction, what encloses this A340 in its thin chassis is an Intel Core i5-8400T with an AMD Radeon 530 graphics, being able to choose the configuration with the seventh generation AMD A9-9425 processor and Radeon graphics R5 There is a model of 22 inches and another 24 inches , both with FullDH resolution and option to be tactile, reaching Lenovo according to the use of 90% of the front by the screen.
These teams are designed for a somewhat more demanding audience and a work environment, with the more traditional design that the company has accustomed us with this line of more sober laptops (and with the characteristic cursor inserted in the keyboard in some of the models) . They have focused on maximizing connectivity, integrating LTE category 16 for the first time in their equipment (the T490), as well as in that the microphones cover the maximum possible field, without forgetting the privacy or that the BIOS has a more entertaining aspect, aesthetic and understandable.
Thus, the ThinkPad X390 reduces frames with respect to the previous generation, integrating a 13-inch screen where a 12-inch screen would be inserted in a chassis 16.5 millimeters thick and a total weight of 1.18 kilograms. Integrates dual field microphones and promises autonomies of up to 17.6 hours, with a fast charge that allows to obtain 80% of the load in 60 minutes.
It is compatible with mechanical docks, Thunderbolt 3, USB type C or USB 3.0 and incorporates the privacy solutions of the company such as ThinkShutter and the screen that prevents you from viewing content from other angles. Privacy Guard Screen (FullHD with brightness of 400 nits). In addition, the hinges allow the equipment to open at an angle of 180 degrees.
The ThinkPad T590 is aimed at those looking for more detail on the screen, with a 15-inch IPS panel with UHD and HDR resolution, with a maximum of 500 nits and Dolby Vision. In the absence of knowing the graphics card, at the moment we know that they are NVIDIA graphics, and in this case the thickness is 19.1 millimeters.
The maximum autonomy in this case is 15 hours, also incorporating fast charge support that allows to obtain that 80% of the battery in one hour . With 1.75 kilograms of weight, incorporates more ports than the previous model including a Thunderbolt 3, a USB type C, 2 USB type A 3.1 (first generation) and an HDMI 1.4 port. It also incorporates the ThinkShutter system to preserve privacy at the webcam level.
The ThinkPad T490 has a thickness of 17.9 millimeters and a weight of 1.46 kilograms, with three options in terms of screen that include the Privacy Guard Display of 400 nits, the IPS FullHD of low consumption (also with a maximum of 400 nits) or an IPS with resolution WQHD with HDR and Dolby Vision of 500 nits. With LTE of category 16, it also incorporates the proprietary privacy solutions of the house, NVIDIA graphics and is compatible with several types of docks.
The small brother of this is the ThinkPad T490s , which incorporates a panel of low consumption IPS with FullHD resolution and brightness of 400 nits (and option to monitor WQHD of 500 nits). Constructed in aluminum, it has a thickness of 16.1 millimeters and a weight of 1.27 kilograms, also with the fast charge of the rest of the ThinkPad although promising an autonomy of more than 20 hours.
