The NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti will be like the RTX 2060, but without RTX (and with DLSS)

The appearance of NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX family has generated a lot of criticism, mainly due to the high prices of these graphics cards and the high cost of a technology such as ray tracing that not many can take advantage of.

Some time ago there were rumors about it, but it seems that NVIDIA wants to relieve the tension and prepares the launch of the GeForce GTX 1660 Ti , a kind of cropped version of the RTX 2060 that shares some of the advantages but eliminates the RT Cores. The GDDR6 memory and the Tensor Cores that are used with the DLSS technology, however, remain.

More economical but (almost) as powerful as the RTX 2060

These new NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti would be the first with Turing architecture that would appear with the traditional GTX brand. The most important difference is that in these models there will be no support for ray tracing , which theoretically should make the price of these graphs more economical.

The data suggests that these dedicated graphics will be based on a new 12 nm chip codenamed TU116. In that chip we will have 1.536 CUDA cores, and we will conserve the 6 GB of GDDR6 memory with 192 bit memory interface that the RTX 2060 offers.

This reduction in the number of CUDA cores and the absence of RT Cores could be a striking reduction in the price compared to RTX 2060 that have been launched with a price of 369 euros. In some media it is estimated that the price of GTX 1660 Ti could be around $ 249 , for example.

There is also good news in other sections such as clock frequencies, which will not be reduced with respect to the RTX 2060, or Tensor Cores, the nuclei that allow calculations in the field of artificial intelligence and that take advantage of, for example, technology of antialiasing DLSS .
