Intel Core i9-9990XE is a peculiar processor. It appeared for the first time at the beginning of the year and was only going to be sold by auction to other manufacturers. It did not even have a clear future, it was listed as “out of route”, which meant that Intel could abandon its development. Now however it has gone on sale for the consumer , at a price that of course is up to the processor.
As Tom’s Hardware has been able to find out , the German retailer Caeking already has it for sale on its website so that anyone who wants it can get one of them. Its final price is 2,999 euros per unit . If desired, also comes within a complete team that reaches 12,999 euros .
This particular Intel processor is part of the Skylake HEDT range (high-end), there are few details about it and its performance. What is clear is that it is one of the most powerful Intel to date. Initially it was thought that it would only be offered to certain OEMs selected by Intel itself for auction every quarter. Now, if you have 3,000 euros and a computer with which to take advantage, you can get hold of it even if you are not a manufacturer that buys wholesale.
The Intel Core i9-9990XE has little competition in terms of power. We find for example the Intel Core i9-9980XE with an 18-core, 36-core CPU with TDP of 165 watts. Intel Core i9-9990XE has slightly less cores, it stays in 14 cores with 28 threads. The difference is that it comes with a frequency nothing more and nothing less than 4 GHz in base and 5 GHz in turbo .
According to data compiled by AnandTech , its DRAM speed is 2666 MHz and it has 44 PCIe lines. On the Caseking website we can see that it gets 14 MB of L2 cache and 19.25 MB of L3 cache . The Intel Core i9-9990XE has a TDP of 255 watts. It will take a good cooler.
As a curiosity, at the time Intel told Anandtech that the Intel Core i9-9990XE was designed specifically for the financial sector and its needs. That was the reason why it did not go on sale and only offered by auction. Something has had to change in this approach.
